Sonic Solutions and Entone Partner to Offer Entertainment Systems

By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributor

Sonic Solutions and Entone (News - Alert), Inc., a provider of IPTV home connectivity solutions, have entered into a partnership to provide telecommunications operators a comprehensive entertainment solution that combines live broadcast TV and DVR capabilities with instant access to over-the-top entertainment powered by Roxio (News - Alert) CinemaNow.

“Entone and Sonic are well positioned to take advantage of new and growing opportunities in the over-the-top market segment,” Mike Galli, OTT Analyst at MRG, Inc., said.

Galli added that operators looking to offer video services to their existing and growing broadband subscriber base are certain to benefit from this collaboration that combines Roxio CinemaNow’s rich content offering with Entone’s leadership position in bringing together traditional pay TV and online media services.

“Instead of competing with OTT services, telco operators can now supplement managed services by providing online video as part of their service without requiring consumers to invest in additional equipment,” Mark Evensen, vice president of product development for Entone, said.

Evensen said that the integration of the Roxio CinemaNow technology platform will provide operators access to larger libraries of movies and videos, at the same time, providing consumers an enhanced viewing experience via a single user interface and remote control.

“Entone is a pioneer in integrating OTT services into the operator model. Through our partnership, we are able to leverage Entone’s direct channel of more than 80 telco operators to expand our customer base and device ecosystem,” Mark Ely, executive vice president of strategy, Sonic Solutions, said.

Ely said that with Entone’s hybrid TV service platform, consumers can now access Roxio CinemaNow powered services conveniently from any TV in the home.
Sonic Solutions says that it is powering the digital media ecosystem through its complete range of Hollywood to Home applications, services, and technologies. Sonic’s Roxio products enable consumers to easily manage and enjoy personal digital media content and, through Roxio CinemaNow, access premium entertainment on a broad range of connected devices.

Recently Iomega, an EMC (News - Alert) company and a major player in data protection, and Sonic Solutions, had announced a relationship that will allow consumers to buy or rent premium entertainment to watch on their televisions without leaving the comfort of their living room.

Just in time for the holidays, upcoming U.S. models in Iomega's ScreenPlay HD Media Player line will incorporate the Roxio CinemaNow entertainment platform, giving consumers instant access to buy or rent movies and other premium content via the Internet to watch on standard and high definition televisions.
