Sandvine and Optenet Enter into Strategic Partnership

By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributor

Sandvine, a provider of intelligent broadband network solutions for cable, DSL, FTTx, fixed wireless and mobile operators, and Optenet, a major player of enabling SaaS (News - Alert) offerings and delivering ‘on-premise’ security solutions, reportedly have entered into strategic partnership to launch optimized parental controls for broadband subscribers worldwide.

Optenet officials said that the integrated solution leverages the company’s proven content filtering and threat analysis technology and Sandvine’s (News - Alert) application- and subscriber-awareness to provide Web protection with superior scalability and configurable, per-subscriber granularity.

Company officials said that it allows operators to provide an integrated residential broadband service, including enhanced parental control capability. End-users do not have to seek additional protection from a third-party security vendor.

“Protection of minors has always been an important part of what we do, and we are very excited about our partnership with industry leader, Sandvine. With our combined technologies, we are making the Internet a safer place for children and other broadband users,” said Francisco Martin Abreu, president and CEO, Optenet, in a statement.
Abreu said that the company’s integrated solution empowers parents to protect their children from harmful Web content without sacrificing the user experience.

According to the company officials, the joint solution provides real-time classification of Web content, with the capability for subscribers to configure preferences at an individual and household level to determine what content is acceptable.

“Internet service providers are looking for more and more ways to offer personalized services and increase the overall quality of experience for their subscribers,” said Tom Donnelly, executive vice president of sales and marketing and co-founder of Sandvine.

Donnelly said that the integrated parental controls solution is an excellent way for service providers to put the controls in the hands of their users and enhance customer loyalty with customized service-provider-branded filtering service.
