By Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributor

Verizon (News - Alert) Wireless recently announced it will host a webcast on Jan. 20, 2010, to take a review on the updated specifications for its suite of wireless devices that will be operational on the nationwide 4G Long Term Evolution, or “LTE (News - Alert),” network. Verizon Wireless is currently in the process of putting together a 4G LTE network on the Upper 700 MHz C-Block spectrum.

The updated specifications were released along with the announcement for the webcast. The latest set of updates is expected to look at specifications pertaining to network access and SMS requirements and also to explore data retry test plans.

Additionally, the updates also include new information about lab and signaling compliance, the open development device approval and introduction process and more.  These documents will be extremely useful to developers in guiding them as they enter into the next phase of bringing their LTE devices to the Verizon Wireless network.

Verizon Wireless intends to launch its 4G LTE wireless network across 25 to 30 markets by next year. This would effectively extend to its entire present national 3G footprint with the next-generation network by the end of 2013.  The company's 4G LTE network will ultimately bring together a complete portfolio of electronics devices and equipment.

The webcast has been scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. ET on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010.  Interested participants can register for the Web cast at the company’s Web site.  Developers can also gain entry to the Verizon Wireless 700 MHz LTE Specification updates from the open development Web site at www.verizonwireless-opendevelopment.com. Developers can simply log on to the Revision History to correctly ascertain which sections of the specifications have been updated.

Verizon Wireless operates one of the country’s most dependable and widest wireless voice and 3G data network, having more than 89 million customers in its subscriber base. With its headquarters in Basking Ridge, N.J., Verizon Wireless is a joint venture of Verizon Communication and Vodafone (News - Alert) and has more than 85,000 employees nationwide.

Users who wish to view and ask for broadcast-quality video footage and high-resolution stills of Verizon Wireless operations can do so by logging on to the Verizon Wireless Multimedia Library.
