Cablevision to Give Customers "Me TV"

By Amy Tierney, TMCnet Web Editor

Cablevision Systems (News - Alert) Corp. is giving New York customers their own 15 minutes of fame, offering them a chance to watch online videos or view family photos on their own personal TV channel, according to news reports.

The technology, called PC to TV Media Relay, will let Cablevision customers transfer anything available for display on their PC to view on a dedicated TV channel.

The company reportedly will start a trial service in June for customers who buy video and Internet services, Reuters (News - Alert) said. Pricing plans have yet to be determined. Cablevision serves about 3 million homes in the New York area.

The effort is part of Cablevision’s plan to stay relevant with customers and avoid being replaced by video sites such as Hulu or Google Inc's YouTube, TMC CEO Rich Tehrani (News - Alert) said.
