Cablevision Deploys Interactive Channels with ActiveVideo CloudTV Platform

By Nathesh, TMCnet Contributor

Cablevision Systems Corporation, a provider of high-speed Internet, digital cable TV and digital voice services and ActiveVideo Networks, a dealer in cloud-based interactive services, have stated that ActiveVideo's CloudTV platform has enabled Cablevision to deploy and deliver over a dozen new interactive channels to its entire digital customer base.

CloudTV platform is an advanced television platform that places the media intelligence in the Cloud, instead of in the device. And using the ActiveVideo CloudTV platform and content developer's kit (CDK), Cablevision is able to write Web-based content once for delivery as a single MPEG stream to any digital set-top box.

According to ActiveVideo, CloudTV delivers both traditional television and Web-based content to cable digital set-top boxes, Web-connected consumer electronics devices and CI Plus-enabled televisions as a single MPEG stream. CloudTV combines the personalized, social Web experience with the immediacy and remote-control navigation of television, and requires a small-footprint software client on the end user device.

The ActiveVideo CloudTV platform utilizes existing VOD infrastructures or broadband connections to increase subscriber value for cable system operators and programmers. The platform uses existing Web content development technologies to enable operators, traditional and Web programmers and advertisers to write rich interactive content once that can be delivered uniformly to any digital set-top box, CI+ enabled television or broadband-connected CE device.

Gary Schanman, senior vice president of Video and Advanced Advertising Product Management at Cablevision has stated that TV programming that brings together the best of linear, on-demand video and interactivity into one channel will be a key differentiator for Cablevision in the future. ActiveVideo's flexible development tools and scalable platform enable them to innovate rapidly and leverage the strength of their fiber-rich network to deliver tremendously valuable, unique experiences to their customers.

Jeff Miller, president and CEO of ActiveVideo Networks  (News - Alert)has said that Cablevision has been a leader in creating innovative services that increase entertainment value for their customers.  They've recognized how the power of CloudTV can simply and efficiently take traditional television and on-demand services to the next level to increase choice and control for any viewer.
