China's Shenzhen Topway Selects Harmonic's HD and VOD Solutions

Shenzhen Topway Video Communication Co., Ltd., one of China's cable operators offering advanced digital video services, has expanded its HDTV and VOD services with Harmonic headend and edgeQAM solutions.

Thanks to this new deployment, Shenzhen Topway Video Communication is able to retain its leadership position in the region by delivering 13 channels of HDTV programming, and offering new HD VOD services and enhanced on-demand capabilities, such as time-shifted TV, to its one million subscribers.

Officials with Harmonic (News - Alert) said that Shenzhen Topway Video Communication selected an integrated company's solution -- encompassing ProView integrated receiver/decoders (IRDs), Electra 7000 MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) HD encoders, ProStream 1000 stream processors, NSG 9000 edgeQAMs, and NMX Digital Service Manager -- based on the unrivalled performance, enhanced video quality, and significantly improved bandwidth efficiency offered by the company.

'Harmonic's digital video processing expertise is evident in their world leading stream processing and edgeQAM solutions,' said Shangbao Mai, vice president of Shenzhen Topway Video Communication Co., Ltd.

Mai also said that with this upgrade, the company has invested in a state-of-the-art infrastructure that expands the company's digital cable offering with value-added services including broadcast and on-demand HDTV and advanced time-shifted TV capabilities.

'Shenzhen Topway Video Communication Co. is a digital TV leader in China, and Harmonic was instrumental to their original deployment,' said Raymond Tse, vice president of Asia Pacific sales for Harmonic Inc.

Tse also said that with this HD and VOD technology upgrade, Shenzhen Topway gains unparalleled flexibility, outstanding value, and a seamless path to continued best-in-class service delivery for its subscribers in Southern China.
