Envivio, a provider of video solutions, has stated that Seans Media, a digital cable TV service provider in Bangalore, India, has utilized Envivio's (News - Alert) video head-end compression solution to launch India's first h.264 based cable service.
Compared to traditional MPEG-2, the Envivio head-end is said to have reduced the amount of bandwidth Seans Media needs to deliver each of its channels to subscribers, freeing capacity for the service to expand its HD and SD channel lineup, while maintaining the highest quality video to satisfy its discriminating customers.
Managing Director of Seans Media, Pratap Wadhwa has stated that Envivio head-end gives them a significant competitive advantage. The number and variety of channels that Seans Media offers has been increased to attract and retain subscribers. The excellent video quality delivered by Envivio's compression system ensures that they love the way the service looks.
Using Envivio video head-end, Seans Media can deliver each channel using as little as 1.6 Mbps bandwidth without impacting video quality even for demanding content like live sports channels. The all IP design of the Envivio system, along with the ability to directly ingest baseband video, eliminates the need for costly, quality-impacting interfaces. The solution has provided Seans Media with the flexibility to adapt to future requirements.
Envivio has claimed that by using encoding technology as a foundation they provide complete solutions that take advantage of modern networks to deliver live and on demand video services to consumers. Envivio solutions have delivered millions of content streams to hundreds of different styles of mobile phones, set top boxes, as well as PC platforms.
Envivio encoders support all three screens of consumer video such as TVs, PCs and mobile devices from a single platform with the ability to take multiple channels of content and encode them simultaneously to deliver multiple mobile TV profiles, multiple Internet TV profiles, or SD and HD IPTV (News - Alert) profiles.
Envivio head-end solutions have provided cable operators with the flexibility and capability they require to compete in an increasingly diverse marketplace. Advanced compression liberates bandwidth, enabling operators to increase the variety of HD and SD channels they deliver over their existing network infrastructure. The built-in support for multiple codec and resolutions enables a single head-end to serve any combination of mobile, PC and traditional TV screens.
