Digital Keystone to Demo its Maelstrom Gateway at CableLabs Summer Conference

Digital Keystone announced that will be demonstrating its Maelstrom Distributed Gateway to cable executives at the CableLabs (News - Alert) Summer Conference Innovation Showcase.

According to company sources the Maelstrom Distributed Gateway is capable of providing branded premium TV content for the digital home including the PC, Mac, iPad and iPhone (News - Alert) devices besides TV.

In a release Paolo Siccardo, president and CEO of Digital Keystone, said, “It is always an honor to participate in CableLabs events, and this year we are particularly pleased to be featured in the Innovation Showcase. This underscores the importance of next-generation gateways for the cable industry, and the recognition given to Digital Keystone’s solutions.”

“We are demonstrating Maelstrom on a gateway platform utilizing an Intel (News - Alert) Atom media processor. The Intel silicon has been instrumental in allowing us to reach this important milestone at the Summer Conference,” Siccardo added.

Bob Ferreira, General Manager, Intel Cable Segment explained that distributed gateways form part of a growing new market segment. The Intel Atom media processor will help deliver innovative software solutions like the Digital Keystone Maelstrom Distributed Gateway (News - Alert), he pointed out.

Company sources explained that the Digital Keystone Maelstrom incorporates a distributed broadcast/broadband architecture that delivers content services required by all users in the entire digital home. The Maelstrom solution consists of a Maelstrom-enabled gateway and a Maelstrom-enabled synchronization server. The gateway converts broadcast services to the native format of each connected device.

Viewers will be able to watch premium content on their TVs, PCs, iPads or iPhones immediately as the gateway eliminates the need to download any plug-ins or the installation of applications or configuring of any custom code.

The addition of the synchronization server enables the network operator to easily customize and control service offerings besides including search, recommendations, advertising and promotions, for enriching the user or viewer experience.

Calif.-based Digital Keystone specializes in secure content delivery to the entire Digital Home. The company develops digital entertainment technologies that serve the Pay TV, PC and consumer electronics industries.

Major solutions from Digital Keystone include the Maelstrom gateway, PODware and PRISMA content security stacks, and the HPNX family of validation, certification, and manufacturing tools.
