Hydrotex Introduces Environmentally-Friendly Cable-Pulling Lubricant

By Rahul Arora, TMCnet Contributor

Hydrotex has introduced Techni-Glide, a high-performance lubricant generally used for cable pulling over long distances, through multiple bends and in building installations.

Environmentally-friendly, the lubricant has a low VOC and is chemically inert, non-toxic and non-bioaccumulative, which makes it ideal for any area where there may be ground water, soil or water contamination.

When measured through the OECD 301B-28 day Sturm Test, its biodegradability came out to be 96.23 percent. The lubricant also resulted as completely non-toxic in the OECD 203 Method Aquatic Toxicity Test. Techni-Glide is compatible with conduit materials and all commonly used cable jackets. Moreover, its application rate is up to 60 percent less than other pulling lubricants.

The new formula has microscopic poly-spheres, which significantly reduces surface contact and allows the cable to easily ride on tiny "ball bearings." With no sticky residue remaining after drying, the lubricant remains slippery and ensures smooth removal of the cable from conduit for any future technology upgrade or job that must be postponed. This formula improves Techni-Glide’s already friction-reducing properties that ensure smooth cable pulling even under high sidewall bearing pressures.

"This product is specifically designed to be environmentally sensitive; we are excited that it is now in the Hydrotex Lubricants for a Healthier Planet product line which allows our customers to use a superior product and improve upon sustainability initiatives,” said Krystyna Muldoon, vice president of Techni-Glide, in a press release.
