Motorola (News - Alert) Mobility Inc. has made an agreement with BelAir Networks to offer its comprehensive and market leading Wi-Fi portfolio to cable operators across the world. This new partnership will bring together Motorola’s leading portfolio of cable, video and broadband solutions and customer support organization with BelAir’s world leading Wi-Fi solutions.

This new platform will be ideal for service providers and will also provide support to cable operators who constantly need to promote competitive differentiation, improve their customer retention ratings and recapture incremental revenue and profits associated with reduced customer churn.

In a release, Joe Cozzolino, senior vice president and general manager of network infrastructure at Motorola Mobility said that, “Cable Wi-Fi is a natural extension of our leading cable video and broadband portfolio that complements our business and the solutions we offer to cable operators worldwide today. As we move beyond the early adopter phase and into the growth phase of the market, we believe the combination of Motorola’s global reach and BelAir’s proven and trusted portfolio will be compelling for both companies. We are excited to be teaming with BelAir and look forward to serving our customers the latest innovations in cable video, broadband and now Cable Wi-Fi solutions.”

Motorola with this new agreement will be given immediate access to BelAir Networks’ proven and widely deployed portfolio of Wi-Fi access points, innovative picocellular technology and advanced Wi-Fi network provisioning and management solutions. Now cable operators who use Motorola Cable Wi-Fi solutions will be able to offer their subscribers on-the-go broadband services that are a simple extension of their in-home broadband services and experience.

Bernard Herscovich, president and chief executive officer of BelAir Networks said that, “Teaming with Motorola is a great opportunity for BelAir Networks as the cable market ramps up its interest in Cable Wi-Fi access and commercial wireless backhaul solutions. With Motorola’s depth of experience in the cable industry and global go-to-market reach, it presents a perfect opportunity for BelAir and Motorola to benefit from cable operators’ growing demand for Cable Wi-Fi access and picocellular technologies. It’s an exciting time for BelAir and the relationship with Motorola reinforces our desire to continue to be the leading provider of Wi-Fi solutions to the industry.”

In other news, Armstrong Cable is reportedly deploying the Motorola BSR 64000 TX32 Decoupled Downstream Module across its broadband network to stay ahead of broadband competition within its serving areas. Armstrong has cable systems in Kentucky, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia.
