In a recent press release, Comcast (News - Alert) Corporation announced that Meredith Attwell Baker will take over the position of Senior Vice President of Government Affairs, NBCUniversal. Ms. Baker will join NBCUniversal’s Washington, D.C.-based office.

“Commissioner Baker is one of the nation’s leading authorities on communications policy and we’re thrilled she’s agreed to head the government relations operations for NBCUniversal,” said Kyle McSlarrow, President of Comcast/NBCUniversal for Washington, DC, in a press release. “Meredith’s executive branch and business experience along with her exceptional relationships in Washington bring Comcast and NBCUniversal the perfect combination of skills.”

“I’ve been privileged to serve in government for the past seven years under President Obama at the FCC (News - Alert) and President Bush at NTIA, I’m excited to embark on a new phase of my career with Comcast and NBCUniversal,” said Ms. Baker.

Ms. Baker will report to Kyle McSlarrow, and will work closely with Rick Cotton, NBCUniversal’s Executive Vice President and General Counsel, who continues to set strategic policy direction for NBCUniversal.

"I’ve seen Meredith’s mastery of issues up close as we’ve worked together on issues at the FCC and NTIA. She understands the issues both domestic and international facing Comcast and NBCUniversal and will be a great addition to our team as we build the new NBCUniversal for the digital future," said Rick Cotton, in a statement.

Ms. Baker is presently working as a member of the Federal Communications Commission. Her terms with FCC ends in June this year. Ms. Baker has also served as Acting Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Communications and Information and Acting Administrator of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) under President George W. Bush.

Ms. Baker holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Washington & Lee University and a law degree from the University of Houston. She is a member of the Texas State Bar and worked at the U.S. Court of Appeals Fifth Circuit in Houston and with the law firm of DeLange and Hudspeth, L.L.P.
