River Dell Regional School District Launches New Learning Opportunities with Optimum Lightpath

By Nathesh, TMCnet Contributor

Optimum (News - Alert) Lightpath, a provider of advanced Ethernet-based data, Internet, voice, video transport solutions and managed services, claimed that River Dell Regional School District was able to launch new learning opportunities for its middle and high schools by leveraging Optimum’s 100% fiber network and cost-effective access to reliable bandwidth.

River Dell (News - Alert) Regional School District comprises 1,615 students, and 142 faculty and staff across its middle and high school, the latter of which was recently included in Newsweek's List of America's Best High Schools.

Director of Technology Marianthe Williams was an Optimum Lightpath (News - Alert) customer in a previous district and hoped to take advantage of the best service and value by working with Optimum Lightpath again to fulfill all of River Dell Regional School District's telecommunications needs.

Williams commented that the district wanted to upgrade from its inadequate 3 mb bandwidth connection, which did not provide the students and teachers with the resources necessary to become 21st century learners. Today, they are in a situation where teachers and students can use Web2.0 technologies without limits.

With a variety of bandwidth, from 5 Mbps to 300 Mbps and minutes-of-use (from 5,000 to 1,000,000) options, Optimum Lightpath claimed that it is sized to fit business of any size. It offers a highly reliable, resilient and scalable Metro Ethernet network with fiber-to-business premises network extending more than 3,700 route miles connecting more than 3,500 buildings. The company’s metro Ethernet service enables customers to increase bandwidth dynamically without requiring customers to purchase or install new equipment.

By deploying the Optimum’s 100 mb Dedicated Internet Access, the River Dell Regional School District was able to introduce a variety of technology-infused programs and initiatives. Students can quickly access the available online resources and textbooks and teachers can seamlessly distribute assignments and work interactively with students. Both students and teachers are able to be completely mobile now and the classrooms have transformed into a student centered environment that stretches student imaginations with the creation of student-authored videos, documentaries, podcasts, music, pictures, book trailers, video essays and more.

Officials with Optimum LightPath exclaimed that Optimum Lightpath has been able to deeply penetrate the education market because they have the price points, services and reliability to make a major difference in how teaching and learning takes place. Their school customers have come to rely on them as a true partner in helping to deliver on the promise of the most advanced education opportunities for students throughout the New York metro area.
