Affinegy and Sigma Systems to Deliver Zero-Touch Provisioning Equipment

By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

Affinegy,a supplier of service enablement and network management software solutions for the home, recently revealed it is integrating its advanced Affinegy Portal Platform with Sigma Systems’ (News - Alert) OSS platform. The resulting system will offer a powerful, seamless solution for installing all new DOCSIS/TR-069 devices including IPTV (News - Alert) set-top boxes, IP video clients and advanced data and wireless gateways in customers’ homes.

According to the press release, the combination of Sigma Systems’ flexible workflow management and Affinegy’s proven D2/D3 gateway management and patented method of proxying the TR-069 management to these legacy devices enables service providers to upgrade legacy DOCSIS2 and DOCSIS3 data gateways to TR-069.The solution significantly reduces integration work by the service provider, resulting in rapid implementations, lowered operational costs and capital expense savings through reuse of equipment already in the subscribers’ home.

“The cable industry is embracing TR-069 to extend remote management beyond the DOCSIS modem and set-top box to advanced services devices and to all consumer-connected IP devices,” said Melissa Simpler, CEO and Co-Founder of Affinegy. Delivering these new services accurately, securely and efficiently without the need for personnel to go to the subscriber’s home is crucial for service providers, both from a customer satisfaction and operator cost perspective. We are excited to work with Sigma Systems, the industry-leading OSS provider, to meet this pressing need.”

Sigma has a long history of enabling service providers to reduce time to market for new services while leveraging their investment in legacy systems,” said Brian Cappellani, CTO at Sigma Systems. “With the joint Sigma and Affinegy solution, cable operators can now easily manage customer entitlements across the growing number of new devices such as modems, routers, gateways, set-top boxes, and VoIP-phones on their networks.”

Equipped with capabilities of an advanced TR-069 Auto-Configuration Server, the Affinegy Portal Platform is a modular and flexible software solution that can be used for managing all phases of the connected home lifecycle from auto-provisioning, management and self-care to maintenance for IP video, voice, data and other services. Furthermore, the platform is a universal solution to administer all connected devices - TR-069-enabled, customer-owned or service provider-issued.

Sigma’s Service Management Platform is a single OSS platform that can support multiple services and service classes over a multi-vendor heterogeneous service delivery network, as well as provides orchestration and automation of end-to-end business and operational processes.
