SK Broadband Selects ARRIS C4 CMTS Platform

By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

Cable operators need quality and reliability to compete in today’s voice and data arena. The ARRIS C4 CMTS allows operators to provide state-of-the-art performance for advanced, carrier-grade voice, high-speed data and IPTV (News - Alert) services. Highly-reliable C4 solutions helps eliminate CAPEX with a highly economical cost-per-port and low operational cost.

The company recently announced that SK Broadband Inc., South Korea's integrated telecommunications company, has started installing IPv6 service to customers across its HFC network. SK Broadband, an ARRIS C4 CMTS customer since 2005, recently installed the new IPv6 service and upgraded its current chassis' to Software Release 8.0.

IPv4 has been the widely used Internet Protocol since 1981, and is currently the foundation for most Internet communications. The unprecedented growth of the Internet and the traffic it facilitates has created a need for more addresses, and IPv6 fills that need.

“Over the past year we've worked very closely with our customers to plan IPv6 feature support for both our CMTS and CPE platforms," said Todd Kessler, ARRIS VP, CMTS Product Management. "We're encouraged to see the success that SK Broadband has achieved using our products in their IPv6 deployments, and we plan to remain at the forefront of delivering real-world IPv6 functionality to our customers worldwide.”

Recently, TMC’s (News - Alert) Shamila Janakiraman reported that Kabel Deutschland had field tested the combination of a EuroDOCSIS 3.0-based ARRIS C4 CMTS and 12 ARRIS Touchstone (News - Alert) Cable Modem CM820S. Kabel Deutschland, a long-time customer of ARRIS CMTS, carried out the tests on a real cable plant placed in a school in the city of Schwerin, Germany, recently upgraded by KD to 862 MHz.
