Aaxeon Technologies Announces Industrial High Speed RS-232 Over CAT-5 Extender

By Tanya Palta, TMCnet Contributing Writer

Aaxeon Technologies recently announced the availability of their newest Industrial Extender, the SED-1010S. Aaxeon, a developer and supplier of device networking and industrial communication products has been focusing its energies on the bourgeoning markets of M2M (Machine-to-Machine) and industrial Ethernet in the recent past.

The newly launched SED-1010S is a high speed RS-232 over CAT-5 extender, which has been designed to transfer data to devices at distances up to 1.2KM, consequently, considerably increasing the typical RS-232 range of only 15m. The serial to Ethernet extender also features CAT-5 cabling, making it stand apart from the competition. For the uninitiated, common cabling is utilized in many applications, making it simpler to implement and deploy with an already fixed infrastructure.

Aaxeon ‘s SED-1010S also features an extended operating temperature of -30°C - 75°C ensuring that the device will operate effortlessly in a wide variety of dynamic operating environments. Since the RS-232 to CAT-5 Extender has built in surge protection, the chance of it becoming defunct is highly unlikely. Another advantage it has over the competition is that it can be used without a power adapter. Of course, in case of heavy demands, an optional power supply is available for those applications that need more power than the host can provide.

Aaxeon Technologies has had a busy few weeks. The company was also in the news recently for its new 802.11n Industrial Wi-Fi Access Point (News - Alert). The APN-300N model not only included the 802.11n Wi-Fi standard to provide up to 300 Mbps throughput, but also features MIMO radio with two antennas, and is therefore able to support the 2T2R technology (2 Transmit, 2 Receive). The APN-300N supports the advanced security of WEP / WPA/ WPA-PSK (TKIP, AES) / WPA2 / WPA2-PSK (TKIP, AES) / 802.1x / RADIUS and will ship in Q3 of 2012.
