By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

The CodecSys Software Platform, named for “a system of codecs,” represents a new generation of video optimization technology. The patented multi-codec compression, open software framework – and dependable APIs – provide a seamless combination with important video management systems across the network.

The combination of these features offers a compression technology that reduces bandwidth requirements by up to 75 percent compared to conventional MPEG2 encoding technologies.

CodecSys was recently selected to provide the framework for WestStar TV's new Over-the-Top (OTT) service through the company's CodecSys patented multi-codec compression software.

Apart from content management and development, integration services and website development, Broadcast International (News - Alert) will offer a complete solution that consists of CodecSys encoding and transcoding. Offering a Network Personal Video Recorder (NPVR) that allows for the recording and recollection of content at any time for up to two weeks, the new service will allow users to access various programming and the local channels on mobile devices and PCs.

“Broadcast International is pleased to support a sophisticated OTT service in a less populated region," stated Steve Jones, vice president and general manager of the CodecSys Division. "Our CodecSys solution enables WestStar's subscribers to not only receive local content on their mobile devices, but connect with entertainment and informative programming from the far reaches of the globe - all on their own schedule.  Access to OTT opens a whole new world to the smaller markets.”

Recently, the company partnered with Beenius, an interactive TV middleware provider, to provide various solutions that consist of the highest quality video processing with BI's CodecSys transcoder platform, and Beenius' open and feature-rich Interactive TV service delivery platform, Beesmart.

Beesmart's modular architecture and open design allow it to be used in various environments that consists of IPTV (News - Alert), Over-the-Top and Cable Television – all with a single platform.
