TiVo Puts Entertainment in Multiple Rooms with TiVo Mini

By Jyothi Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

TV goers looking for ways to transfer shows and Web entertainment to other monitors in their house without an additional TiVo (News - Alert) DVR can now use the TiVo Mini, an all-purpose companion device that allows TiVo users to access apps and view live TV, recorded and streaming content – as well as on-demand programming – from multiple rooms.

Posing at 6 inches long and weighing 0.78 lbs, TiVo Mini's update provides access to integrated apps, including YouTube (News - Alert), Hulu Plus, Pandora and Spotify, among others.

The machine also delivers a gaming option, through which users may access and play a variety of games, including Quizzmaster, Black Jack and Wordsmith. In addition, subscribers can access their photos on TV screens throughout the home using TiVo Mini’s Google (News - Alert) Picasa and Photobucket integrations.

"The TiVo Mini answers the demand for a simplified whole-home viewing experience and a more cost-effective solution than putting another DVR or cable set-top box in another room," said Jim Denney, GM and VP of Product Marketing for TiVo, Inc. "With so many viewing options in a compact form factor, TiVo Mini makes it easier to get more value from your existing home entertainment set up by further enabling you to watch what you want, where you want it."

The company is currently offering the TiVo Mini through tivo.com/mini, and after March 17, 2013 this set will be available through the firm’s authorized retailers for $99.99, with a monthly subscription fee of just $5.99 for a 12-month commitment.

Users can also opt to purchase the TiVo Mini with lifetime service for a one-time cost of $249.98.
