Olympusat Standardizes on Akamai's Sola Media Solutions for Content Preparation

By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributor

Olympusat Telecom, specializing in the development and distribution of independent Hispanic, specialty, faith and family television networks, has started standardizing on Akamai’s (News - Alert) Sola Media Solutions for its end-to-end content preparation.

C. Austin Powers, president, Olympusat Telecom said, “Olympusat customers require the ability to efficiently and securely distribute video to any device, on any platform, across any network globally, and their audiences expect that content to be of the highest possible quality, no matter how they're watching.”

“Akamai gives us the necessary workflow tools and scale to meet the vast set of requirements that are critical to success in today’s world of multi-screen content consumption,” Powers added.

According to officials, Olympusat is including Akamai’s cloud-based Sola Vision transcoding, stream packaging, security services and its Sola Sphere content delivery and network storage solutions into its video management services offering for television and rich media customers.

The Sola Media Solutions will help Olympusat simplify the secure delivery of HD-quality video content to a huge multiscreen audience. A single content master “mezzanine” file uploaded on to a watch folder on Sola Sphere’s NetStorage starts an automated workflow, said officials.

This produces multiple video renditions suitable for playback across iOS and Android (News - Alert) smartphones and tablets, desktops, connected TVs, gaming consoles and OTT devices. The workflow will enable Olympusat to deliver advantages like streamlined costs, turnaround time, content protection and expanded reach to customers.

This initiative will help Olympusat address current requirements and also future-proof their workflow for quickly and easily supporting new formats and standards. Akamai specializes in the provision of cloud platforms that enable enterprises to provide secure, high-performing user experiences on any device, anywhere.

Bill Wheaton, SVP and General Manager of Akamai’s Media Division remarked, “Olympusat is leveraging the power of Akamai's cloud-based Sola Media platform to simplify and expedite many of the time-consuming processes that go into creating and delivering high-quality video content to connected devices.”

Recently, Omantel announced the signing of an accelerated network partnership deal with Akamai for facilitating the delivery of content and applications over the Internet to its customers. This technical partnership is expected to benefit local Internet users as well as Omantel’s customers located all over the Middle-East and Southeast Asia.
