By Meenakshi Shankar, TMCnet Contributor

The market for hybrid services is growing dramatically, particularly for operators where the digital switchover is underway or recently completed. Digisoft (News - Alert).tv, a global provider of HTML5 set-top box software, is taking the right move by partnering with Dune HD, a company specializing in full HD media players and connected boxes.

Through this deal, both companies have teamed up to deliver hybrid and IP-based television services globally with Dune HD’s innovative line of CPE products that feature powerful Sigma Designs (News - Alert) chipsets and offer support for MHEG-5 and HbbTV using Digisoft’s Iris operating system.

Also, the combined Dune HD/Digisoft.tv product will support standard broadcast formats and rapid customization using HTML5 for the interface, including EPG, VOD and the App Store.

Dune HD’s CPE products enable operators to deliver content to the widest range of subscribers without replacing their existing TVs or having to find room for bulky set-top boxes. With features like simple, high-quality, plug-and-play design and compact form factors, Dune HD products can be cost-effective to install and support for operators.

Konstantin Dyshlevoy, chief executive officer at Dune HD, mentioned in a statement that the current partnership with Digisoft will now further allow Dune HD devices to be easily tailored to meet individual operator needs.

The partnership is aimed at creating a new cost-effective consumer platform for carriers and retailers. Based on the Dune HD Connect StickSTB with additional support for the company’s full line of IPTV (News - Alert) and OTT IP and hybrid CPE devices, the agreement encompasses distribution, systems integration, research and development and support.

“The Dune HD family of hybrid media players, combined with a Pay as You Go approach to both television and the App Store, will help service operators address the very real threat of cord cutting. Digisoft.tv is delighted to partner with Dune HD to provide leadership in this rapidly developing area,” Fearghal Kelly, chief executive officer of Digisoft.tv, stated.
