Toshiba Surveillance & IP Video Products Group, a business unit of Toshiba (News - Alert) America Information Systems, Inc., has rolled-out a new and advanced Internet protocol (IP) bullet camera called IK-WB81A that is tailored for outdoor video surveillance.

One of the MarketsandMarkets’ research report titled “Video Surveillance Market - Global Forecast & Analysis (2011 – 2016): By Products (IP, Analog, Remote, Mobile); Components (Cameras, Storage Devices, Software, System Management); Applications (Infrastructure, Commercial, Institution, Industrial, Residential); System Services,” has indicated that the total video surveillance applications market is expected to reach $25.43 billion by 2016 at a CAGR of 19.35 percent from 2011 to 2016.

Cashing in on this trend, Toshiba unveiled this new outdoor video surveillance camera with full 1080p high definition (HD) resolution.

According to Toshiba, the new IK-WB81A can capture a wider field of view than competitive bullet cameras by using an exclusive, long-range single reflex LED (SRLED) IR system with an illumination angle of 53 degrees. It features wide viewing angle of 37 degrees to 96 degrees horizontal, 21 degrees to 53 degrees vertical.

The new IK-WB81A camera provides vari-focal 3.7mm to 9mm zoom lens and SRLED IR illuminators, along with new split glass technology that prevents LED light from reflecting back into the lens.

The split glass technology eliminates the washed-out "halo" effect that is generally seen on nighttime images, especially when the lens glass becomes dirty or wet.

In addition, the new IK-WB81A also features day/night imaging with IR cut filter and wide dynamic range for difficult backlighting conditions. Along with audio in/out and SD card slot for edge recording, it also features IP66 weatherproof protection rating to withstand outdoor elements.

All these features make the camera ideal for outdoor video surveillance applications, which typically experience changing light conditions throughout the day and require extra illumination at night.

"Our new IK-WB81A offers a 30 meter viewing range which takes advantage of the 1080p HD resolution," said Sergio Collazo the director of sales and marketing at Toshiba Surveillance & IP Video Products Group. "That means you can discreetly monitor larger outdoor areas at night without incurring the cost of additional hardware."

Provided with a choice of H.264, MPEG4 and MJPEG compression codec, the new IK-WB81A provides simplified cable management, remote optical zoom and one-touch remote auto focus to eliminate the need for contractors to run back and forth to the control room to confirm proper focus.

In addition, the new IK-WB81A camera is ONVIF compliant, thereby making it interoperable with third-party ONVIF components regardless of the manufacturer.
