By Jayashree Adkoli, TMCnet Contributor

Orange (News - Alert) Romania, a provider of diverse communication solutions, will soon launch its new satellite direct-to-home (DTH) TV package service with the help of satellite operator, SES (News - Alert), and media management and global content delivery services provider, GlobeCast.

The new high quality satellite DTH TV package service will utilize multiple transponders on ASTRA’s 31.5 degrees East orbital position and will be broadcasted in the DVB-S2 and MPEG4 technical standards.

Orange Romania (News - Alert) booked this service through GlobeCast, a subsidiary of France Telecom/Orange offering media management and global content delivery services for broadcasters and content creators. Its secure fiber and satellite network is connected to many teleports, technical operations centers, and points-of-presence.

As an integrator of audiovisual technology and a full service provider, GlobeCast has the capability to manage, as well as transport millions, of hours of video and other rich media each year.  It will be providing a complete solution to bring Orange Romania’s channels to the point of uplink and prepare them for broadcast on capacity, which it has leased from SES.

SES has a fleet of 53 geostationary satellites, through which it provides satellite communications services to broadcasters, content and Internet service providers, mobile and fixed network operators and business and government organizations worldwide.

Ferdinand Kayser, chief commercial officer, SES, said in a press release, “We are delighted that Orange Romania decided to launch its new service via ASTRA. This confirms the leading role that SES plays in Central and Eastern Europe and shows that our orbital slot 31.5 degrees East is becoming a new hot spot in this region."

The standard definition (SD) and high definition (HD) channels of Orange Romania’s new service will be backed by GlobeCast’s contribution, encryption and encoding services.

Philippe Fort, chief operating officer, GlobeCast, said in a press release, “Our offices worldwide collaborated to ensure a full technical solution for GlobeCast’s customer, Orange Romania, beginning with reception of the channels from Bucharest and ending with handoff to our partner SES for uplink to their powerful satellite. We are proud of the result and will continue to ensure excellent quality of service on the platform, leading to a high quality experience for the viewer.”
