Beyond International Deploys Aspera Connect Server

By Anshu Shrivastava, TMCnet Contributor

Global production company Beyond International has expanded its deployment of Aspera’s high-speed fasp technology for production of shows such as MythBusters, Selling Houses, Deadly Women, Behind Mansion Walls and Toy Box (News - Alert).

A number of experienced program developers create and produce programs across a number of genres for Beyond. A complex global workflow enables the production of these programs. To meet tight production deadlines, teams stationed at various locations across the world collaborate and share content, quickly. For example, company officials said that MythBusters is shot in San Francisco and edited in Australia, with the executive producer based in the U.K.

Michelle Munson, CEO and president at Aspera (News - Alert), noted that creating high-quality programming requires the ability to share and exchange content between teams, regardless of where they are located – across continents and around the world.

Originally, Beyond was using FTP to move its files internationally. The company, however, was facing performance issues, such as latency, dropouts and slow speeds. After a comprehensive evaluation process, the company selected Aspera Connect Server.

Munson believes that with the help of Aspera’s high-speed transfer software, Beyond will be able to allow its business needs to drive the selection of location and production, rather than having it determined by the infrastructure.

Built upon Aspera Enterprise Server technology, the Aspera Connect Server is ideal for the exchange of files and directories between large numbers of users over the WAN, according to Aspera officials. At the core this solution is fasp transport.

The deployment of Aspera’s solution is enabling Beyond to transfer full resolution video between on-site locations, the creative post-production team, and the shows’ producers.

“The predictability of Aspera transfer performance and the added efficiencies in our workflows has allowed us to focus on the creative aspect of our business, without worrying about moving content from where it is created to where it is needed,” said Billy Cobbe, IT manager at Beyond International.

Aspera is a creator of next-generation transport technologies designed to move data at maximum speed regardless of file size, transfer distance and network conditions.

Earlier in April, Telestream and Aspera announced the release of faspex for Telestream Vantage. The solution provides a faster file transport mechanism for Vantage data.
