Entropic Brings Experience to the MoCA Space

By Rich Steeves, TMCnet Managing Editor

Entropic (News - Alert) has more than 13 years of experience doing multimedia over coax, and is an established expert in the MoCA space. The company has been busy in that area this year, having made several MoCA-related announcements and earning some design wins as well.

According to Anton Monk, co-founder and vice president of technology at Entropic, the company knows more about the coax industry than anyone. Entropic might not be the biggest name in the space, but it has experience and knowledge – and it puts emphasis on interoperability testing and test performance as well.

Monk stated that the company is able to leverage its advanced platforms to do just about anything that is required. We spoke about the importance of HTML5, and Entropic’s relationship with Opera’s browser.

Another topic we covered was the barriers Entropic faces in entering the retail market. Monk is optimistic about the retail prospects of Entropic’s equipment, stating that the company’s products feature multiband adaptors, providing compatibility to many different flavors of MoCA in a single SKU, which is appealing to retailers.

The company has had a busy summer, working closely with companies such as NETGEAR and Irdeto (News - Alert). It’s also set its sights on the Latin American market, speeding that region’s transition to high-definition set-top boxes. In the coming months, the company will learn whether its products will be receiving a 2013 CSI (News - Alert) award, and it will continue to have a presence at industry-related shows, such as The Cable Show, most recently held in Washington, DC.
