After making it easier for subscribers to find related content, the digital video recorder (DVR) service TiVo (News - Alert) was recognized with a 2013 Emmy award for its efforts. The company received the award for Technical and Engineering Achievement for Personalized Recommendation Engines for Video Discovery from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
Launched in 1997, TiVo is a digital platform that enables its users to search live TV and the Web, coordinate TV viewing between multiple digital screens, and access interactive content related to what they are viewing.
"At TiVo, we don't innovate to win awards -- we do it because we love television and believe that consumers deserve a better experience," said Margret Schmidt, vice president of Design & Engineering, chief design officer at TiVo Inc. "We are thrilled to win an Emmy for the TiVo Premiere and consider it further validation of the incredible work so many people at TiVo have put into creating the best interactive TV and whole-home experience on the market today."
"We congratulate TiVo on being recognized as one of the select few to be honored with the Emmy Award for Technology and Engineering for 2013," said Malachy Wienges, chairman of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. "The National Awards Committee's Engineering Achievement Committee seeks out the best technology to give viewers the ultimate television experience and, this year, we are happy to see TiVo among our distinguished honorees."
This award is TiVo's fourth Emmy Award. TiVo previously received a 2001 Emmy Award for Pioneering the Development of Personalized In-home Digital Video Recorder and accompanying personal television service (Jim Barton (News - Alert) and Mike Ramsay, co-founders, TiVo Inc.); a 2006 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement in Interactive Television (TiVo Service); and a 2007 Technology & Engineering Emmy Award for Outstanding Innovation and Achievement in Advanced Media Technology (TiVo Interactive Advertising Platform).
