Three Companies are Better than One

You know the old adage, “two heads are better than one?” Well it looks like three companies are better than one too.
General Communications Inc. (GCI (News - Alert)), Pace (PIC.L) and TiVo (News
- Alert) have launched the Pace XG1 Multi-Tuner Video Gateway. The Gateways is equipped with a TiVo Advanced User Interface platform, providing its customers with linear TV, VOD and interactive content that can be used on multiple platforms.
“The Pace/TiVo solution offers our subscribers TiVo’s award winning user interface to access and discover VOD and linear TV content, together with personalized recommendations and powerful search and discovery capabilities,” Bob Ormberg, VP of Content and Product Development at GCI noted. “It also offers total platform flexibility for software development and service enhancements from our trusted and longstanding CPE partner, Pace.”
After GCI introduced the TiVo User Interface to its cable subscribers, the company was ready to take it to the next level. GCI wanted to offer the same user experience but this time on Pace’s next generation platform. One of the main elements GCI wanted to provide for subscribers was a fully integrated DOCSIS capable hardware solution equipped with video streaming capabilities along multiple connected devices in the home. GCI succeeded in this feat. Pace’s XG1 includes a DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem that supports full IP connectivity.
“Over the course of our seven plus year partnership with GCI, we have been fortunate to launch multiple new technologies in the Alaska market. GCI is the first on a long list of service providers planning deployments of our solution this year. The reception by subscribers and the industry of this joint product initiative has been incredible,” said President of Pace Americas Tim O’Loughlin.
