VDS, mDialog Enhance Content and Ad Replacement for Live Internet Streaming

By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributor

VDS a developer of broadcast automation software, content design and plug-in products, and mDialog have joined hands to deliver automated end-to-end solutions for rules-based content and ad replacement for live linear Internet streaming operations.

mDialog specializes in stream management and dynamic ad insertion on Internet connected devices. The collaboration between the two firms will synergize the capabilities of mDialog’s smart stream platform and VDS’ streamliner.

This will help provide frame-accurate advertising and content replacements. Media content providers and service providers will benefit from a complete approach that enables dynamic ad and content replacement for live, linear TV Everywhere (TVE) deployments.

Also the system’s frame accuracy remains the same when operating in live or recorded modes and also when transitioning from one state to the other. This makes it suitable for broadcasting live news and sports, said officials.

The real-time system also powers broadcasts to TVE to IP connected devices such as phones, tablets, smart TVs and gaming consoles. mDialog will be able to receive accurate and timely industry standard SCTE104/35 signals via the VDS Streamliner. This provides a single workflow environment for various devices.

The received signals are passed on to the streaming encoder which will then condition the ad break and provide signaling information to mDialog which processes the signals producing a seamless frame-accurate ad replacement. This also allows content replacement (blackouts) or house ads that depend on pre-defined rules, geographic locations and viewer entitlement.

Cloud side ad insertion and device-based measurement enables this turnkey workflow to enable traditional Linear TV with addressable advertising in addition to enhancing the broadcast standard.

Recently mDialog launched its audio stream management service that utilizes Apple’s (News - Alert) HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) protocol to enable its users to have an uninterrupted sound quality while enjoying their favorite music, news, sports or weather programming through live streaming radio. mDialog has been working with media companies in North America to manage, deliver, and measure video advertising across IP-connected devices, including the iPad, iPhone, Android (News - Alert), GoogleTV, Apple TV, Roku and Xbox.
