Procera Networks and Avvasi Create Real-Time Video QoE Measurement Solution
By Rory Lidstone, TMCnet Contributing Writer
Internet intelligence company Procera Networks (News - Alert) and Avvasi, a QoE-driven video management and monetization solutions vendor, have entered into a strategic partnership that features a joint solution based around Avvasi’s Q-VUE product and Procera’s PacketLogic Intelligent Policy Enforcement (IPE) system. The result is a solution capable of performing video quality of experience (QoE) measurement in real time, effectively making it the communication industry’s best way to determine video QoE in service provider networks.
It’s well known that video traffic accounts for much of today’s mobile traffic — some estimates say it takes up as much as 50 percent — which prompted Procera to seek out Avvasi as a solutions partner in order to address customer demand for greater insight into OTT video quality. For mobile operators, the goal is to better understand, plan and manage network resources while still facilitating subscriber video consumption.
“Measurement of mobile video quality is directly aligned with our analytics strategy, so partnering with the leading video-quality analytics company was the most logical step to take,” said James Brear, president and CEO of Procera Networks, in a statement. “Our customers will gain tremendous insight from combining Avvasi’s Q-VUE with our Internet Intelligence data to develop a better understanding of how they can build successful video monetization strategies.”
Earlier this year, Procera released a software-based version of its PacketLogic solution called Virtualized PacketLogic, a policy enforcement solution based on the NFV standards of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute. Around that time, Avvasi released Avvasi Xperium 40, a telecom platform designed to support LTE (News - Alert) and LTE advanced traffic scalability.
As for the companies’ new joint solution, it has been designed in such a way that Avvasi’s Q-VUE complements PacketLogic by providing leading-edge video analytics such as video QoE traffic measurement by device type, service, network and location. This will allow service providers to profile their subscribers’ video service use.
