Harmonic (News - Alert) recently announced that TDC has deployed Harmonic’s comprehensive end-to-end multiscreen solution. The solution will enable TDC to provide time-shift services with catch-up TV content through its YouSee and TDC brands, as well as achieve a competitive advantage in the industry. Harmonic is a provider of video delivery infrastructure for emerging television and video services and TDC is a telecom company that is based in Denmark.

The Harmonic time-shift solution offers multiscreen service with streaming of live content; video-on-demand files; start-over; catch-up; and cloud-based DVR services. The solution is an innovative integration of Harmonic's ProMedia Origin stream packager, NMX Digital Service Manager video network management solution and MediaGrid shared storage systems. The solution utilizes its flexible bitrate technologies to help TDC to deliver high-quality streams of 100 channels on TVs, PCs, tablets, and smartphones to over 1.4 million subscribers.

The ProMedia Origin stream packager is a part of the ProMedia suite of multiscreen production and preparation applications. ProMedia Origin provides advanced flexible stream capture and encryption processes for many HTTP based bitrate protocols and a high throughput multi-format streaming from a unified platform.

The NMX video network management solution manages the ProMedia server. When combined with MediaGrid shared storage systems, the solution provides scalable storage capacity, bandwidth, and streaming capability enabling TDC to optimize operational efficiencies; deliver superior video quality on any screen; easily manage multiscreen services with time-shift TV, reduce CDN costs and increase additional revenue streams.
