Skitter TV to Offer Compelling Entertainment to East Texas

By Mini Swamy, TMCnet Contributor

Several counties and communities in East Texas are in for an entertainment treat. Peoples Communications, Inc. (PCI (News - Alert)), a provider of advanced telecommunications services, has decided to add Skitter TV to its product portfolio.

Since 1952, PCI has been offering broadband, telephone, and wireless, and is currently constructing a 600-mile fiber transport network that will serve several communities. It has operated different TV services, including a traditional cable system, but these solutions were simply not economically viable in its markets.

The company's flagship solution, Skitter (News - Alert) TV, is an end-to-end video platform for encoding, managing, streaming and viewing converged Internet TV, video on demand, and live broadcast and satellite TV; hence it appeared to be a logical addition to the PCI array of products.

Searching for a cost-effective video solution that would offer customers the most popular national cable and local broadcast channels in packages and also a greater selection of standard and high definition programming, PCI hit upon Skitter’s IPTV (News - Alert) platform.

"We needed a video solution that not only provided our customers with the best technology and programming, but also offered PCI a path to profitability; after carefully examining all of our options, we concluded that Skitter TV was the best choice," said Scott Thompson, CFO of PCI.

Skitter's IPTV services is also be offered over PCI's CLEC, Connextions Telecom to its service territory. As it offers video service providers the lowest capital and operating expense budget in the industry, more than a dozen other rural broadband providers are using the Skitter TV platform.

Robert Saunders, CEO of Skitter TV, was excited to bring its state-of-the-art technology to PCI and promised to launch the service in a way that is “financially viable for PCI and at great value for its subscribers.”

With Skitter TV, PCI customers can now enjoy their favourite television shows and other videos from the Internet. If Skitter.TV is offered by a local service provider, they can even enjoy all the television from popular cable and satellite channels, set a list of favorite channels, a personal list of favorites and a unique viewing queue.

With TV watching getting better, more compelling and entertaining, it could get harder to push PCI customers off from the living room couch.
