Nevion to Showcase New NX4600 H.264/AVC Media Gateway
By Deepika Mala, TMCnet Contributor
Recently, Nevion expanded its range of media gateways by introducing the new NX4600 H.264/AVC Media Gateway (News - Alert) at an upcoming industry event.
The versatile NX4600 features an easy-to-use control interface and complements and strengthens Nevion’s existing product lines.
Officials said that the media gateway has been designed exclusively for contribution networks. It provides superior quality H.264/MPEG-4 AVC encoding and decoding with exceptional flexibility, density, ease of use and cost-effectiveness.
The NX4600 also combines Nevion’s (News - Alert) experience in real-time delivery of professional-quality and highly secure video and audio over IP, in a compact and handy device.
Janne T. Morstol, chief product and development officer, Nevion, said “The NX4600 is an important contribution to that transition. H.264/AVC provides great trade-off between bandwidth usage and reasonably low latency, and Nevion’s new product provides top video quality, with best-in-class user-friendliness and unrivaled reliability.”
The NX4600 is integrated with Nevion’s management solution, VideoIPath. This further makes it easy to manage traditional and IP-based media networks by hiding the underlying complexity.
The solution includes up to 4 codec modules, each of which can be used either as an encoder or a decoder, providing up to 4 encoders or 4 decoders in a single RU. A module can be switched from encoding to decoding without making any hardware changes.
Additionally, NX4600 also includes in-built monitoring capabilities that help anticipate and correct any network issues. The unit also supports Nevion’s trademark advanced protection mechanisms for the real-time transport of professional media.
Furthermore, being compact and versatile, the NX4600 can fit into most environments, particularly where space is at a premium.
Last month, TMCnet reported that the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced that Nevion, will receive a Technical and Engineering Emmy award for its efforts in the standardization and productization of JPEG 2000 interoperability.
