By Jayashree Adkoli, TMCnet Contributor

Even though there are many digital video recorders (DVRs) available in the market, not many have a large storage capacity to accommodate consumers’ increasing need to record their favorite shows. Additionally, demand for live streaming services to mobile devices from DVRs have increased too. However, many DVRs in the market can’t meet the demand.

Catering to this consumers’ need, TiVo (News - Alert) Inc., a provider of solutions for advanced television entertainment market, has unveiled a new DVR, called as TiVo Mega, which has 24 terabytes of recording space.

Expected to be available in retails during the first quarter of 2015, the new TiVo Mega has 26,000 hours of standard digital (SD) recording space, which is approximately 4,000 hours of HD recording space.

According to TiVo, the new TiVo Mega is a rack-mountable appliance with 30 times the capacity of most cable or satellite DVRs and user-swappable drives. Above all, it is cited to be an all-in-one approach to live, recorded, on-demand, streaming services and web-based television that gives consumers what they want on any screen, wherever they are.

Featuring six tuners that can record a multitude of content simultaneously, the new TiVo Mega can support the company’s TiVo Mini for the ultimate whole-home solution. Moreover, users can stream live TV or recordings to their smartphones and tablets using a free application.

Users can even utilize Season Pass management, a recording scheduler that allows users to add or remove recordings and enhanced WishList management. The device’s channel guide with filters enables users to watch what they want as quickly as possible.

Capable of networking Ethernet and MoCA, the new offering comes with a TiVo Slide Pro Remote that features a full QWERTY-format slide out keyboard to facilitate easier text entry.

Apart from featuring hot user-swappable drives that offer protection from data loss, the new TiVo Mega features a "What to Watch" personalized dashboard, which provides users with comprehensive recommendations. In addition, it also provides users with universal search across cable, video-on-demand and web apps including Netflix and YouTube (News - Alert). It’s Collections section even offers editorial collections based on current events or categories including new fall TV, Shark Week, Holiday, Emmy or Oscar winners, et al.
