Multicable Chooses Broadcast International's CodecSys

By Deepika Mala, TMCnet Contributor

Multicable, a premier cable and Internet Service Provider in Mexico, selected Broadcast International’s (News - Alert) CodecSys as the core platform to launch its Over-the-Top Video Programming Service.

Currently, Multicable delivers 92 channels of both linear and non-linear content through its traditional cable service. With the help of CodecSys, the company will now be able to extend its service to deliver broadcast quality content to PCs and mobile devices.

CodecSys, by streaming multiple profiles for multi-device consumption, will enable Multicable to create dynamic bundles for consumers based on content and devices.

It will also help Multicable to expand its portfolio by including other video programming services including Video-On-Demand, OnDemand playback, syndicated content publishing, local news and events and many other rich-media offerings.

"We are excited to enter this new phase of our strategic growth plan. Our investment in CodecSys generates two top-line revenue opportunities -- first, new product offerings to existing customers and second, the ability to reach new customers in outlying areas. Our Internet customers will now be able to subscribe to our programs with multiple devices, including mobile phones, laptops, iPads and other smart devices. We've found that Broadcast International has the proven expertise and understanding of optimizing a video workflow from beginning to end," said Antonio Frias, CEO, Multicable, in a release.

The agreement, which calls for licenses based on both channel count and user access provides for growth and expansion with simple software upgrades and helps avoid the costly pitfall of using proprietary, encoding hardware-based appliances.

No financial details of the agreement have been disclosed as yet.

In related news, Fujitsu (News - Alert) Frontech North America Inc., a premier provider of market focused IT-based business solutions, has entered into a strategic alliance with Broadcast International and Myricom (News - Alert) to provide an optimized solution for the media and broadcast market for the increasing array of devices that are flooding the market.
