SmartLabs' Set-Top Boxes Enhance MTS' Digital Television Services

By Carolyn J Dawson, TMCnet Contributor

Interactive digital TV offering under the MTS Home TV brand is being gradually developed by Mobile TeleSystems (News - Alert) OJSC or MTS in collaboration with CIS. SML-292 set-top boxes produced by SmartLabs have been used by the operators as a result of an open tender. In terms of functionality, reliability and quality, the SmartLabs set-top boxes meet the requirements of MTS (News - Alert). An announcement in this regard has been made by the top company in the Russian telecommunications market, MTS.

A contract for the supply of IPTV (News - Alert) set-top boxes SML-282 to MTS was successfully implemented by SmartLabs earlier in spring this year. Full HD 1920x1080 is supported by the SmartLabs SML-292 Premium IPTV set-top box. Two USB ports, optical SPDIF, HDMI with HDCP, and other interfaces are featured by the set-top box for enhanced connectivity of external devices. HDTV and 3D TVs and projectors are also fully compatible with the set-top boxes. The set-top box is compatible with the OTT solutions as the smart Adaptive Streaming technology is supported by the set-top box.

The customers of MTS Home TV can now get a wider range of IPTV services with SML-292. More value-added services can be enabled as the SML-292 Premium has an embedded hard drive. These include services like Local PVR, PushVoD and PauseLiveTV. The set-top boxes can be either purchased or leased by the subscribers of MTS Home TV.

In a release, Mikhail Grachev, CEO of SmartLabs said, "We are happy that MTS subscribers will be able to enjoy the benefits of the SmartLabs new gen set-top boxes."

According to Grachev, the key drivers that attract users to SML-292 Premium include versatility, simplicity and ease of operation, stylish and discreet design and high image quality. These STBs are therefore an effective tool for marketing and promotion of IPTV services.

Grachev said, "SML-292 Premium are future-proof to support upcoming 3D digital TV capabilities and ensure high quality of the operator's services in the long run."

Mobile and fixed voice, broadband, pay TV, and content and entertainment services are offered by MTS. Further information on MTS is available at the company’s website http://www.mtsgsm.com/.
