The five-year forecasts include many permutations such as networking segment and data rate, region of the world, product, media type, structured cabling and interconnect. Within the datacom market, Ethernet remains the most pervasive networking technology, with Fiber Channel second and InfiniBand third. It is anticipated that by as soon as 2012, InfiniBand will surpass Fiber Channel due to its increasing penetration into the high performance computing sector, and because of its adoption into low-latency applications such as financial trading. Still, by 2015, it will only be about one-fifth that of the Ethernet market.
