ARRIS Group Demonstrates IPv6 Interoperability for European Cable Market

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

ARRIS Group, a communications technology provider for triple- and quad-play broadband services, announced its C4 CMTS and Touchstone (News - Alert) TG862S Wideband cable modems have demonstrated interoperability for IPv6 services over a weeklong period in the test labs of Excentis in Ghent, Belgium.

"The cable industry has been preparing for the important and necessary transition from IPv4 to IPv6 for some time now and, due to our members' rapid growth, Cable Europe Labs has increased our focus on validating technical solution and transition strategies," said Peter Percosan, managing director of Cable Europe Labs.

ARRISS officials said the recent interoperability event, hosted by Excentis, demonstrated the great strides made by key vendor partners. The company’s C4 CMTS supports EuroDOCSIS 3.0 features.

As per the demonstration, the ARRIS CMTS and CPE products have shown IPv6 interoperability in the areas of ED2.0+IPv6, ED3.0 and eRouter. The company also demonstrated several IPv6 migration techniques, like Dual-Stack Lite, NAT64/DNS64 and NAT444.

"This announcement represents a validation of the comprehensive IPv6-related research and development efforts conducted by ARRIS, a leader in EuroDOCSIS 3.0 technology," said Todd Kessler, ARRIS VP, CMTS Product Management, in a statement. "Over the past years we've worked very closely with our European customers to plan IPv6 feature support for both our C4 CMTS and our Touchstone CPE portfolio."

Echoed Derek Elder, ARRIS senior vice president and general manager, Touchstone DOCSIS CPE Business Unit, "We're very pleased to have been part of such a successful interoperability demonstration at Cable Europe Labs. European cable operators can rest assured that our data modems and E-MTA voice and data devices will support the full range of IPv6 migration stages."

Recently, ARRIS announced that the individual products within ARRIS Group’s Whole Home Solution will be converted to the Moxi brand. The Moxi family combines the video technologies acquired from Digeo and ARRIS’ voice and broadband solutions to advance the home media technology space.
