iPhone Users Can Now Access Live TV App from Time Warner Cable

By Juliana Kenny, TMCnet Managing Editor

The tablet world went into a bit of a tizzy last year when Time Warner (News - Alert) Cable issued its first free iPad app that enabled users to subscribe to 32 live TV channels for viewing on the device. We can only imagine what’s in store for those subsequently lucky iPhone (News - Alert) users now that the cable company has issued a version of its Live TV app for the iPhone.

Users must have an iPhone running iOS 4.3 or higher in order to access the coolness of being able to watch one channel on the iPhone while a different channel runs on the actual TV set.

Time Warner Cable’s interactive program guide is also accessible through the app with up to seven days of television listings available in addition to the DVR management tool. It basically sounds as though the iPhone becomes the remote, the cable box and the TV set all at the same time.

Other smartphone users need not lament entirely: Time Warner Cable did release a TV app for the Android (News - Alert)-based phones and tablets last month, but the app does not include the live TV feature. The company did note that the feature should become available with the expanded rollout of Ice Cream Sandwich – Android’s newest operating system.

So, it would appear, gone are the days of fighting over the remote! No more will there be screaming matches between sister Mary Ann and brother Billy over which Saturday morning cartoon to watch. Dad wants to watch football and mom wants to watch Days of our Lives? No problem.

Unless everyone in the family has Droids. ;)
