ATN Wins Rights for Tri Nation Series

By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributor

Asian Television Network International Limited (ATN), one of Canada's pioneer South Asian broadcasters, has secured the Canadian broadcast rights for the Tri nation series between India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

These matches will be shown live on CBN across Canada and rebroadcast on ATN-Cricket Plus.

These games are expected to be a treat not only for cricket fans of the sub continent but will also entertain all cricket-loving people who have made their home in Canada.

ATN is currently broadcasting the England and New Zealand series followed by England and South Africa and English County Cricket.

In May, Asian Television Network International Limited (ATN) launched ATN Cricket Plus on Shaw Cable, a cable company in Western Canada.

The 24 hour premium specialty channel is dedicated to cricket, including World Cup coverage and the Indian Premier League.

“We are very pleased to add ATN Cricket Plus on Shaw Cable in Vancouver, British Columbia," said Shan Chandrasekar, president and CEO of ATN, in a statement.

With the addition of Cricket Plus, Shaw Cable will now be carrying a total of six ATN channels.

Vancouver is home to over 260,000 residents of South Asian descent and some 750,000 people who are of British heritage - more than a million potential cricket lovers.

"The Cricket Plus subscriber base could explode," Chandrasekar predicted.

It may be mentioned here that in April, Asian Television Network International Limited had announced securing the exclusive Canadian Broadcast Rights for five years (2008 to 2012) of the new Indian Premier League (IPL).

ATN Cricket Plus has premiered major cricket events such as the World Cup in the spring of 2007, Twenty 20 World Cup in the fall of 2007 and it has broadcasted the following games live this year: New Zealand V England Test series and ODIs; Pakistan vs. Zimbabwe; and South Africa vs. West Indies.

Asian Television Network is a licensed television broadcaster providing 24/7 Premium Television Programming in several South Asian languages to communities across Canada.
ATN also operates a radio channel 24 hours a day on XM159 across North America with the latest news, sports and entertainment. ATN is the first broadcaster to deliver South Asian Contents on Bell Mobility.
