Cable Modem from ARRIS Receives PacketCable 1.5 Compliance

By Divya Narain, TMCnet Contributor

ARRIS Group recently announced that its Touchstone (News - Alert) 702G Embedded Multimedia Terminal Adapter (E-MTA) has received the certificate of PacketCable 1.5 compliance in CableLabs' Certification Wave 59. This is the second certification for the product which is already DOCSIS 3.0 certified.

The first-of-its-kind double compliance allows cable operators to deploy primary line telephony service in combination with channel bonded wideband data service. By deploying both the services through one device, operators can save up on capital costs. Another product of the ARRIS cable modem suite, the ARRIS Touchstone Wideband Modem WBM750 is also DOCSIS 3.0 compliant.

Supporting up to four bonded channels in both the upstream and downstream directions, the Touchstone 702G enables operators to provide up to 120 Mbps upstream and 160 Mbps downstream high-speed data services. In addition, the 702G is compatible with two lines of PacketCable compliant carrier grade VoIP.

"This certification wave is further validation that the ARRIS Touchstone suite of customer premises devices leads the industry in the introduction of new innovative, standards-based products," said Bruce McClelland, President, ARRIS Broadband Communications Systems (News - Alert).

"The ability to integrate Channel Bonding and IPv6 into a voice-enabled PacketCable MTA CPE device is a milestone for ARRIS and the industry and further demonstrates the technological innovation that has become synonymous with the ARRIS Touchstone brand."

ARRIS equips broadband operators with the technology for delivering reliable telephony, demand driven video, next-generation advertising and high-speed data services. The company has R&D centers in Atlanta, Chicago, Beaverton, Wallingford, Cork, Ireland and Shenzhen, China.
