South Central Communications Picks ECI Telecom Solution to Enhance Fiber Transport Network Services

By Shireen Dee, TMCnet Contributor

South Central Communications, a telecommunication provider in Utah, has chosen ECI Telecom’s (News - Alert) X Window Display Manager (XDM) All-Range ROADM and Converged Multi-Service Transport Platform (MSTP) to facilitate operation of a fiber transport network.

“ECI's XDM solution delivers a cost effective infrastructure that can dynamically adapt to changing market needs,” said Jody Davis, Network Operations Manager, South Central Communications, in a statement. "By leveraging the platform's integrated long-haul capabilities and multi-service functionality, we are able to significantly reduce our total network cost while increasing our service agility – a significant advantage in today's competitive environment."

The XDM platform is an important feature in ECI's 1Net NGN (next-generation network) and will help South Central to extend data-rich solutions to businesses enterprises and other institutes. It will also be able to provide its residential users 'triple-play' offerings, such as Internet Protocol Television and high-speed Internet.

With ECI's XDM solution, South Central will also be able to unite its ROADM (News - Alert)-based optics, Ethernet and Synchronous Optical NETworking (SONET) infrastructure to one platform. The solution also has multi-functional capability, a vital ingredient of ECI's 1Net framework value proposition. This will give South Central the flexibility required to alter and scale its network thereby allowing quick and cost-efficient responses to local demand in real-time.

This assembled platform will enable South Central to not only get effective bandwidth utilization of packet traffic, but to also enjoy both the high capacity and reliability of its optical network.

“We are proud to enable South Central to maximize their service potential by providing them with a ‘Build-As-You-Grow’ converged optical solution,” said Dave Robison, General Manager, RBU Americas, ECI Telecom. “By allowing the convergence of different network types onto one hybrid platform, South Central will have the long term flexibility required to meet the growing broadband needs in their market.”

South Central’s deployment of ECI's WSS ROADM will assist in forecast-tolerant, smooth and speedy provisioning of services.

ECI's XDM solution will be administered with its LightSoft Network Manager. LightSoft's approach makes the optical layer simple to manage, thus enabling end-to-end provisioning in a single platform.
