Cisco Network Solutions to Steal the Show

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

With an aim to help service providers increase capitalization on next-generation digital media service delivery, Cisco (News - Alert) is planning to offer a bunch of scalable end-to-end network technologies.

The “Connected Life-Deliver More” technology solutions will be showcased at Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) Cable-Tec EXPO, June 24-27, Philadelphia.

According to Cisco, a supplier of networking equipment and network management for the Internet, the new technological solutions will empower its customers with innovative service solutions and make them “experience providers.”

According to Cisco official announcement, the solutions showcased at SCTE EXPO include:

Bandwidth enhancement solution to scale the network.
Switched Digital Video (SDV) to measure real-time viewership and maximize advertising benefits.
QAM Sharing offers video and data capabilities of the Cisco RF Gateway (News - Alert) Series and converges high-speed and high-bandwidth data and voice distribution at the edge of the cable access network.
Bandwidth enhancement for hybrid fiber-coaxial (HFC) upgrades/node-splitting/optics.
The multiple 1310 nm wavelengths carry unique content over a single fiber to deliver more broadband services without installing new fiber.
Prisma DOCSIS-PON (Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification- Passive Optical Network), a fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network for easy deployment within a cable operators existing HFC plant.
Digital Services Access Manager (DSAM) to support analog-to-digital conversion within multi-dwelling units (MDUs) in an "all digital" environment.

Cisco also offers a set of home components such as:
Set-tops to give home users access to contents on multiple devices. Cisco set-tops support tru2way and digital television (DTV) transition initiatives, as well as advanced video coding (MPEG-4 AVC), multimedia over coax alliance (MoCA) and expanded storage options.
Video quality and bandwidth utilization solutions, including MPEG-4 AVC encoding, transcoding and decoding solutions to enable cable service providers to deliver better quality transmission of MPEG-4 AVC broadcast streams to legacy MPEG-2 set-tops.
Cross-platform content delivery system (CDS) to deliver the contents sourced from external content providers or media companies.

Cisco offers business services through small and medium business (SMB) voice solutions, Prisma IP optical transport solutions for cellular backhaul and high-bandwidth commercial customers and Ethernet over DOCSIS.

There are a number of DOCSIS components on display. They include voice & data modems, wireless gateways, and DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS).
