Bright House Cable Op Eyes Improved HD Service

By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

Seeking better video quality for subscribers, Bright House Networks, the nation’s sixth largest cable television operator, announced today that it’s using the Sentry and Medius digital content monitoring solutions from Mixed Signals.

By using these solutions, Bright officials say they’re looking to improve the picture and sound quality of signals.

In the initial stages, Bright House Networks will focus on improving picture and sound quality for both standard and high definition, according to the company. The company will closely monitor each program at the MPEG, IP and quality levels to achieve this. The effort is expected to help Bright resolve issues even before the customers are affected, company officials say.

Sentry says it’s the only solution on the market that continually monitors each individual program at all three levels. Apart from this, Bright House Networks will use Sentry to monitor digital ad insertions and data carousels, according to the company.

Bright says the quality of service to the customers is important to the company and it takes every step to further improve our already high levels. The company opted for Mixed Signals’ Sentry after looking at various options. Bright believes that the comprehensive features provided by the company in maintaining and improving the quality of Bright’s services. The company also said it expects to get some help from Mixed Signals in rolling out new services in the future.

Looking to control all the Sentrys from a central location, Bright House Networks is also using Mixed Signals’ Medius remote monitoring and management system, which complements Sentry. Bright House can now easily monitor every Sentry in a particular cable system with the help of Medius. This will offer an unparalleled and comprehensive view of the network as a whole and of the programs flowing through the network. Currently, the Medius has been deployed by Bright House Networks in the network operation centers (NOC (News - Alert)) of its Tampa and Orlando cable systems.

“As one of the nation’s premiere cable operators, Bright House Networks is well known throughout the industry for its commitment to innovation and to providing its subscribers with superior service,” said Eric Conley, chief executive officer of Mixed Signals. “Bright House Network’s deployment of Sentry nationwide is a tremendous win for Mixed Signals and illustrates the industry’s growing demand for our content monitoring solutions, which are used by five of the top six U.S. cable operators.”
