Mammoth Networks Combines Multiple Carriers at Fiber Hotels

By Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributor

Reseller Mammoth Networks is combining multiple carriers to enhance private-line connectivity in the lower 48 United States. The company that is joining disparate networks at common facilities. Mammoth Networks is an aggregator of data services.

The company serves 14 western states with its Layer 2 DSL network and the contiguous lower 48 states with their private-line T1s and fiber services. The company headquartered in Gillette, Wyoming and is privately owned.

The physical presence of Mammoth in fiber hotels allows the company to combine TDM and IP solutions. This creates private circuits which wouldn’t have been possible earlier. The customers of Mammoth, also referred to as “Partners,” have additional reach into markets where end-to-end solutions do not exist. For example, if a partner requires a 100Mbps connection between rural Montana and a place in Seattle, the company will provision an OC3 in Montana, pointed to a GigE connection on Seattle and seamlessly transition the circuit between two locations.

According to Brian Worthen, head of business development at Mammoth Networks, “As our network has grown, we realized its success relied on choosing the most appropriate carrier. We found that by working with choice carriers, we are able to improve reliability across our network. It just so happens that the carriers we work with want the business enough to stay price-competitive as well.”

The infrastructure required to support backbone connections in multiple fiber hotels has been developed by Mammoth. This includes arranging and installing equipment from Seattle to Atlanta and Chicago to San Jose. Mammoth is all set to combine services that benefit their partners due to the presence of equipment in large carrier facilities. The company has been able to join private-line circuits due to its private DSL solution. Mammoth works to develop carrier relationships through reliability and redundancy.

According to Worthen, large carriers secure the services of multiple carriers to package a solution, disregarding quality of the circuit. This is the driving force for Mammoth to choose its vendors – based on quality and support.
