CommScope to Merge Antennae, Cable Production Sites

By Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributor

CommScope today announced that the company plans to initiate additional manufacturing consolidation of its antenna and cable production.

The company says it wants to better utilize facilities, reduce costs and enhance its long-term competitive position in markets around the world to better its global manufacturing network.

CommScope Inc. is an infrastructure solutions provider for communications networks. The company expects to merge some of their antenna, cable and cabinet group and Enterprise segments’ antenna and cable production into other existing facilities, according to the company.

The company claims to be aware of the number of people who will be impacted by this move. By reducing costs, and improving utilization, they feel they can better serve and secure the long-term interests of their global employee population, as well as customers and shareholders, company officials say.

Brian Garrett, CommScope president and chief operating officer, said, “Combined with our previously announced actions that affected manufacturing locations in Belgium, Brazil and Italy, these proposed moves are expected to enable CommScope to have a much more highly efficient and properly utilized manufacturing footprint around the world.”

When plans are finalized and approved later this year, the company will provide overall expected costs and savings. Apart from the restructuring charges, the company anticipates a great deal of benefit from these actions, when fully implemented by late 2009.

Production of Enterprise cabling operations in Brisbane will be discontinued by early 2009, and moved to other CommScope facilities, due to these changes, officials say.

Microwave antenna operations at Stratford, Bidford and Long Marston areas in England will either be outsourced or shifted to Andrew antenna manufacturing facilities. The same will has been planned in the case of the base station antenna production, connector, cable, and accessory assembly operations in Brno and Machine shop operations in Lochgelly, according to the company.
