SinglePipe Signs Northland Cable

By Gary Kim, Contributing Editor

Seattle-based Northland Cable Television has tapped SinglePipe to manage the cable company's business and residential phone services. The move is not unusual, as many smaller independent telcos and cable companies use management services to handle operations. In the early days of the cable modem business, many smaller cable operators outsourced their high-speed access business, and one can expect the same trend to develop as cable operators move into commercial services as well.

Northland operates small cable systems in Alabama, California, Georgia, Idaho, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas and Washington. The financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.

SinglePipe’s managed service solution is a turn-key digital voice product that includes a range of packages for both residential and small to medium businesses, including regulatory compliance, FCC (News - Alert)-compliant 911, local number portability, complete back- office integration and tier 2 and 3 support

Northland will use the SinglePipe Integrated Provisioning System. That will give Northland the ability to integrate SinglePipe's Web-based back-office solution with Northland’s current systems. SIPS is integrated with a service-provisioning gateway, which facilitates flow-through billing and provisioning for commercial and residential VoIP services. The SIPS platform also incorporates customer care and support services software, which enables operators to rapidly launch new revenue-generating services, provide advanced customer care and ensure high levels of network availability.
