Huawei Picked to Help Build 40G WDM Network in China

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributor

China Telecom (News - Alert) has selected Huawei Technologies to build what it said is China’s first 40G WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) transmission network between Shanghai and Wuxi.

An ultra-high-capacity 80 wavelengths x 40G transmission solution capable of 10G/40G hybrid transmission from Huawei (News - Alert) will address China Telecom’s ever-increasing Internet bandwidth requirements and help lay a foundation for providing high-bandwidth services.

Christian Chua, president of Huawei’s Transport Network Product Line said in a statement that it is an honor to work with China Telecom in building China’s first 40G WDM transmission network.

Chua explained that the proliferation of Internet services has put an ever-increasing demand on bandwidth. He added that Huawei will continue to focus on operators’ pressures and challenges by jointly promoting the commercial application of 40G technologies.

Huawei’s sources point out that they launched the world’s advanced 40G solutions, which have been deployed in Europe, North America, and Asia Pacific. The company’s 40G transmission solution provides a comprehensive coding technology and delivers the most cost-effective solutions across different application scenarios.

The patented SuperDRZ technologies from Huawei can support ultra long-haul transmission of up to 1,500 kilometers without the need for regeneration, which reduces investment costs. As the 40G transmission solution also adopts Huawei’s unique C-band extension technology, it increases the fiber transmission bandwidth by an extra 20 percent. In addition the 40G transmission solution also enables the DWDM system to feature a transmission capacity of 3.84T which the company claims is the largest in the industry.

Huawei’s officials point out that their 40G transmission solution won an InfoVision Award from the International Engineering Consortium (IEC (News - Alert)) in 2008. Moreover the company has deployed the industry's longest 40G commercial trunk with no electric regeneration as well as successfully developed a 100G WDM prototype.

China Telecommunications Corporation (News - Alert) (China Telecom) is an extra-large state-owned telecom operator organized according to China's telecom industry reform scheme.

Huawei has also announced that from 4th August through to 5th December, they will demonstrate their innovative carrier-class solutions, including the latest Metro Ethernet, IP RAN, security and storage solutions, to customers in 13 European countries.

During the ALL IP Roadshow, local customers will be invited to visit the truck to see how Huawei’ s solutions in areas including access, datacom and transmission, enrich people' s lives through communications, enabling them to access information anywhere and at anytime.
