ADC and Panduit Reach Cabling Licensing Agreement

By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributor

Panduit has taken a license to certain ADC patents directed to angled patching, a popular feature employed in the enterprise structured cabling market.

The license agreement allows Panduit to continue selling its angled patch panel products. It covers angled patch panels such as the Category 5e, 6 and 6a RJ angled patch panels that are widely deployed in the data center environment for their inherent advantages.

The license partially resolves a patent infringement lawsuit, filed by ADC in the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota. In its complaint, ADC alleged that Panduit infringed various ADC patents, including ADC’s U.S. Patent No. 6,916,199 (“the ‘199 patent”) and No. 7,244,144 (“the ‘144 patent”) which are directed to patch panels with angled patching.

“This agreement strengthens our market position by securing a license to an ADC patent portfolio in angled patching,” said Tom Donovan, president of Panduit.

The licensing agreement provides further acknowledgment of the value of ADC’s angled patching solutions by another industry leader in the structured cabling market.

“ADC has developed a truly innovative approach to solving the space and usability challenges of traditional patching products. We have led the market with our own angled patch panels and offer an industry standard intellectual property license to other manufacturers making angled patch panels for the structured cabling market,” said Jaxon Lang, vice president of Global Connectivity Solutions Americas for ADC.

Panduit joins CommScope as a licensee of ADC’s angled patching portfolio.
