Sunrise Telecom's SunLite GigE Aids Ethernet Business Services

By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

Seeking to offer a competitive advantage to the service providers, Sunrise Telecom (News - Alert) Incorporated, a provider of test and measurement solutions for telecom, cable and wireless networks, today announced the SunLite GigE, the world’s first palm-size GigE tester.

With this tool, telecom and broadband service providers can meet the strict demands of using Ethernet to deliver robust and differentiated services to their business and municipal customers, according to the company.

The SunLite GigE offers features such as multi-stream, multi-service testing capability for installation and maintenance of differentiated Ethernet and triple-play services, according to the company. It also provides the required functionality for quick and easy service provisioning, company officials say. By eliminating the need for multiple test sets, a complete set of tests improves productivity and lowers operating expenses, officials say. Providing reliable performance, network and service quality can be tested across a variety of parameters, they say.

Providing long battery life required for complete installation and maintenance of Metro Ethernet, IP services and network elements including switches and routers, the SunLite GigE is a compact and lightweight test set that boots-up rapidly and runs cool without a fan, according to the company. Now, technicians with limited Ethernet or IP testing experience can verify performance parameters for Gigabit Ethernet services quickly with test set’s intuitive graphical user interface, high resolution color screen, and simple test profile creation and sharing, company officials say.

The SunLite GigE’s traffic generation and measurements cater to the needs of the most demanding testing scenarios, company officials say. Field technicians can verify end-to-end transport of Gigabit Ethernet/IP traffic, transmit and analyze eight independent streams and run test methodology based on RFC2544, company officials say – and all with the help of SunLite GigE.

Also, Technicians can use the SunLite GigE to determine throughput, link utilization, latency, and IP connectivity, company officials say. With the accurate results available, technicians can quickly make pass/fail, go/no-go decisions. Copper and fiber GigE testing in the same tester is also possible with the SunLite GigE’s 10/100/1000BASE-T and 1000BASE-X interfaces.

“Until now, the combination of high performance and high functionality were only found in bulky hard to use Ethernet testers. The SunLite GigE has transformed the landscape and is capturing the imagination of our customers through its unique combination of high performance, rich functionality and simplicity of use in the world’s only palm size tester,” said Bahaa Moukadam (News - Alert), Sunrise Telecom’s vice president of marketing. “Telcos’ and Cable Operators’ urgent need for a quantum leap in productivity improvement and CapEx reduction has been addressed with this breakthrough product.”
