CTC Cable Attains LAPEM Certification for ACCC Conductor

By Jai C.S., TMCnet Contributor

Composite Technology Corporation’s (CTC) subsidiary, CTC Cable, has received certification from Laboratorio de Pruebas de Equipos y Materiales (LAPEM) for both CTC Cable and for its ACCC (Aluminum Conductor Composite Core) conductor products.

In an effort to meet the growing electricity demand, the ACCC conductor not only replaces thermally constrained lines, but drastically reduces the costs associated with new installations.

LAPEM is the certifying agency for Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE) which is a decentralized public entity of the Mexican Federal Government, created by decree of the legislative branch of the Mexican Congress in 1937. Operating through 13 regional branches, the CFE is the electrical transmission grid owner and electricity provider for nearly all of Mexico.

LAPEM's certification is required for any product to be used on the CFE grid. CTC Cable entered into the certification process with LAPEM in November 2007.

"The CTC Cable team worked very hard to achieve this certification as it clears the way for ACCC products to be used throughout Mexico as a standardized item,” said Marv Sepe, COO of CTC and president of CTC Cable.

“CFE can now specify ACCC conductors directly in upcoming tenders where high capacity and high efficiency conductors are needed. We believe the Mexican market is very promising, especially in light of their stated desire to improve the efficiency of the CFE grid," stated Sepe.

LAPEM certification involves a registration and extensive audit with a thorough investigation and review of ACCC conductor technology, standards and evaluation results.

Throughout the certification process, LAPEM, CFE and CTC Cable personnel had a close co-ordination including several facility visits and a five day audit by LAPEM of CTC Cable's manufacturing operations, says the company.

The initial certification is valid for three years, added CTC.

Composite Technology Corporation develops, manufactures and sells innovative high performance electrical transmission and renewable energy generation wind turbines through its subsidiaries, CTC Cable Corporation and DeWind.
