Tektronix Enables Effective DTV Services Deployment

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributor

Tektronix (News - Alert), Inc. reportedly has announced comprehensive support for the Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting Terrestrial DTV standard across the full MPEG analyzer and generator portfolio.

The company said that ISDB-TB support is being added to the MTS400 Series MPEG Analyzers and MTS4SA software, and both MTX100B and RTX100B MPEG Generators.

Tektronix says its support will aid Brazilian ISDB-TB broadcasters in deployment of new ISDB-TB services that can deliver digital TV, HDTV and mobile TV channels to consumer TV sets and mobile/handheld devices.

According to company sources, Brazil began to broadcast over-the-air, high-definition (1080i) digital TV using the ISDB-TB standard in December. Based upon the Japan ISDB standard, ISDB-TB adds H.264 AVC video compression and HE-AAC for audio compression. Tektronix says that ISDB-TB needs additional test and measurement capabilities for designers of video compression IC’s, professional compression systems and set top boxes. ISDB-TB also needs these capabilities for broadcasters who deliver traditional broadcast television using compressed digital video over satellite, cable and terrestrial channels.

Arif Kareem, vice president of the Video Product Line at Tektronix, said that with new support for ISDB-TB across the Tektronix MPEG analyzer and generator portfolio, Equipment Developers, Network Operators, and broadcasters have access to the Test and Measurement tools they need to be successful in Brazil. These tools will help their customers maximize quality, reduce time to market and improve operational efficiency.

The company says that the MTS400 Series MPEG Analyzers provide DTV and IPTV (News - Alert) connectivity and network QoS metrics, which are integrated into the MPEG analysis capabilities. Equipment designers and manufacturers can leverage the addition of ISDB-TB to ensure standards compliance for new network appliances, including consumer premises equipment in support of the ISDB-TB deployment in Brazil.

Since Tektronix MTS (News - Alert) Series analyzer products include integrated cross-layer fault analysis and error-logging, users are told whether the root cause of video problems is at the transmission, transport stream or elementary stream layer.

Tektronix supplies test, measurement, and monitoring products, solutions and services for the communications, computer, and semiconductor industries, as well as military/aerospace, consumer electronics, education and a broad range of other industries worldwide.
