Zayo Group Signs Agreement to Acquire Columbia Fiber Solutions

By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributor

Zayo Group, a provider of bandwidth and telecom services, has signed an agreement to acquire Spokane, Washington-based Columbia Fiber Solutions (CFS) from Columbia Ventures Corp.

CFS provides leased dark fiber services and fiber-based Ethernet services over a transparent LAN (TLS) infrastructure in the Inland Northwest. Zayo’s private line and IP suite of services is expected to be added to CFS’ existing product portfolio.

According to the agreement, CFS will become part of Zayo Bandwidth (News - Alert) which is Zayo group’s business unit. This provides fiber-based bandwidth solutions to carriers, Web-centric companies, public entities, educational institutions and enterprises.

Zayo Bandwidth offers services such as private line, wavelength, Ethernet, Internet and collocation services. This acquisition makes Zayo’s network include 19,000 fiber route miles catering to 1600 on-net buildings covering 20 states. Zayo Bandwidth operates fiber optic networks in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Midwest. Zayo strives to provide fiber-based bandwidth, responsive solutions and a growing network.

“The CFS network compliments our existing metro and regional network in the Northwest by increasing the density of our coverage in the Spokane-Coeur d’Alene metro area,” said John Scarano, COO of Zayo Group and President of Zayo Bandwidth. “Zayo has long-standing relationships in place with many of CFS’ customers and will be even better positioned to meet the growing bandwidth needs of these and other carriers and enterprises in the Pacific Northwest.”

Zayo’s network at present offers its services to Washington, Oregon and Idaho regions. The CFS network includes another 320 additional route miles of fiber and over 350 on-net buildings in the Spokane-Coeur d’Alene metro area, which ranks second in population in Washington. The network is offering connectivity to major carrier locations, colleges, data centers, hospitals and large enterprises.

Louisville-based Zayo Group is a regional provider of telecom services. It offers bandwidth, voice and managed services to carriers, enterprises, SMEs and government customers. Its services are offered through three complimentary business units.
Columbia Capital, M/C Venture Partners, Oak Investment Partners, Battery Ventures, and Centennial Ventures are the telecom and Internet investor companies behind Zayo Group.
